Sam Smith, who identifies as non-binary with they/them pronouns, showed no signs of backing down when they posed in nipple covers after the reaction to their suggestive music video.
Outrage After Non-Binary Singer Sam Smith DEFENDS Sexually Explicit Music Video-‘Exploit Sexuality For Popularity’
The vocalist put out the spicy video for their new song, I’m Not Here To Make Friends, and commentators requested for it to be given an age limit on websites like YouTube due to its contentious material. His supporters have justified it on the basis that other stars such as Madonna have also shared imagery that has been very explicit.
That is why they could not understand why Smith would get more backlash in comparison to other stars. As such, Sam doubled down on their beliefs. In a post on Instagram, the singer struck a pose without a shirt on, wearing a set of black sparkly heart-shaped nipple covers.
The post was captioned by the following comments: “I love you.” However, the following factors must be considered. First of all, the video had shown a large number of dancers wearing nipple tassels, as they threw themselves on a bed and began to surround the singer.
Secondly, given that the singer does have a large youthful fan base, his critics began to bash him with some brutal comments. And this was reflected in the comments that followed on social media.
One person wrote: “If only kids would just watch wholesome videos like we used to when we were growing up,” while another person stated: “Straight, Gay or Trans, simulating “water sports” isn’t appropriate for most audiences.
“It’s being spoken about because it’s Sam Smith who’s a non binary superstar and certainly knows how to exploit sexuality for popularity. It’s really straightforward.” It is fair to say that Sam will continue to do what they think is best regardless of what others say.
