Niall Horan has spoken about the difficulties he experienced during the highpoint of his music career with One Direction.

Since then, the boyband have gone on a long hiatus, but that has not stopped the continual talk surrounding a reunion tour. In an interview on People Just People, Niall revealed how the fame had gotten a bit too much. He said: “In the U.K., it was nuts. Going and doing signings here and there, bits and pieces like that — that was the first sign of it. [There was] banging on car windows [and swarms of fans].”

Niall is not the only member of the band to struggle with the continued media attention. Who could forget Zayn Malik, who had departed the band after constant speculation that he was doing drugs. In addition, his eating disorder also transpired after his time in the band. His departure at the time was a shock to everyone involved, but in light of what Niall has just said, it is completely understandable.

And it was during one visit to Italy that Niall recognised how crazy things were. He added: “I remember getting to Milan on the first day and thinking, ‘This is a different level.’ There were thousands [of people]. Everything in Italy, it’s a bit more dramatic. That was when I remember thinking, ‘This is nuts.” It seems their management took extreme measures to protect the boy band.

While it was justified on the basis of their safety, Niall could not figure out why a group of teenagers had so much control exerted over them. And by the sounds of it, things were very tough indeed. He continued: “I struggled with the idea of, ‘Why won’t you just let us out?’ We just want to go for a walk. But you can’t get inside the brain of a fan. Now I completely get it, but at the time, you’re like, ‘You’re our age. Just let us out.”

This would explain why the boy band decided to take a long break and focus on other projects. Niall, for his part, has done well in his solo career. Whether the boy band gets back together is anyone’s guess.
