Octavia Spencer has come out and apologised after she was criticised over telling Britney Spears to sign a prenuptial agreement with Sam Asghari rather than congratulating her on the engagement news.

Octavia, for her part, only had Britney’s best interests at heart. She had seen the singer being taken advantage of before, as shown with Britney’s father, Jamie Spears.
But given that she had some time to reflect on it, she came out and held her hands up. In a post to her fans on social media, she remarked: “Y’all, a few days ago Sam and Britney announced their engagement and me being me, I made a joke. My intention was to make them laugh, not cause pain.” And in keeping with that, Octavia admitted that she had spoken to the pair in order to clear the air.
This was probably wise, as Britney will not want her happiness overshadowed by what other people think. Nothing could be truer, as the singer did deactivate her Instagram shortly after she announced her engagement.
That is why Octavia just wants Britney to be happy. She added: “I’ve reached out to this lovely couple privately to apologize and now want to restore just a smidge of happiness they were robbed of. Britney’s fans have seen her through a lot of pain, and she’s found happiness.” Despite Octavia’s apology, not everyone was happy at the manner in which she had acted.
A certain subset of fans suggested that Octavia only apologised because she knew that she was getting backlash. Regardless of what her motivations may have been, Sam did respond to her warm words.
And by the looks of it, all is well now. He replied: “You are very kind to clarify, but I have no hard feelings whatsoever. Jokes and misconceptions come with the territory.”
With no harm being done, Britney and Sam can continue to do what is best for them. Whether that is a prenuptial agreement or not is only their business. And the fans will be there to support them every step of the way regardless of what they decide to do.
