    The 'Squid Game' Costume

Netflix’s ‘Squid Game‘ has been a huge success, but not everyone has been pleased by the message from the show.

Schools Ban Students From Wearing The ‘Squid Game’ Costume For Halloween Because Of ‘The Potential Violent Message’

The Korean hit series focuses on how 456 people, who are in huge debt, try to win prize money in the form of billions in order to pay off their debts. In doing so, however, they are risking their lives.

Naturally, the show does have an element of violence. And given that Halloween is coming up, three schools in Syracuse, New York, have decided to ban children from wearing costumes from the show.

In the picture here, we can see that the red-hooded costume has a triangle plastered over the mask which accompanies it. The main reason why the schools have acted in this way was “the potential violent message aligned with the costume.”

As such, in an attempt to discourage any trouble on school grounds, children are being advised to not do it for the safety of the other children.

This response has been backed up by the majority. At a time when the pandemic has already disrupted the lives of children all around the world, the safety of children is more paramount than ever.

Having said that, though, there is an argument that it does detract away from allowing children to enjoy themselves. A certain subset of fans believe that this is being blown out of proportion.

There are equally other things which can have a negative influence that have been allowed to continue within schools, such as mobile phones.

One user on Twitter summed it up with the following comment: “Ridiculous. They may not have even seen the show, just like kids games because they are kids. Smh.” Nevertheless, the educational authorities have continued to stand their ground.

Craig Tice, who happens to be the Superintendent of his school district, told the Washington Post the following: “Our principals wanted to make sure our families are aware that it would be inappropriate [to use] a Halloween costume from this show.”

Regardless of whether this costume is allowed in schools, there is no doubt that it will happen away from the school doors. If you liked reading this article, then check out our other features on the Daily Soap Dish.
