Marlon Wayans sat down with Netflix’s Strong Black Lead earlier this month to discuss a couple of things. What stood out was him discussing his family’s legacy in comedy and forging his own path. The Wayans family of entertainers is pretty big with most of Marlon Wayans’ siblings being comedians. Most of their children entered show business as actors and screenwriters. Keenan was the one who pretty much pushed his siblings’ careers in television during the 90s with the show In Living Color.
However, the younger brothers, Marlon and Shawn were the two who weren’t starring actors in the show. They would get their shine on television with their show The Wayans Bros. in 1995.

When the show ended in 1999, the duo was heavily focused on film with comedy movies such as Don’t Be A Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood, the Scary Movie series, and several other parodies. The brothers had established themselves as comedy veterans with a penchant for parody. His work saw him make a star in sitcoms, fly solo in comedies, and pick up a role in the action film G.I Joe: The Rise of Cobra in 2009.

In sitting down with Strong Black Lead, he went into his family’s career in comedy and how he developed his interest in doing comedy and acting. It really seemed like it was inevitable considering his older siblings all went into it. One thing he made sure to point out was how important it was for him to stake his own claim in entertainment. There were some funny stories and it was pretty amusing sit-down interview. I wasn’t expecting it to be that interesting since the Scary Movie series burned me out on the younger Wayans brothers. As always, you can check out a clip from the interview below.
