‘Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back—Evolution’ is the newest Pokemon film coming soon! It is coming very soon on Netflix. According to a summary on Netflix’s trailer video, “When researchers discover and exploit a fossil of the Mythical Pokémon Mew, they unleash a creation that goes against the very laws of nature. The Legendary Pokémon Mewtwo was intended for use as a tool of destruction. But as Mewtwo becomes aware of its own dubious origin, it begins to resent its human creators and seeks revenge.”

If this sounds familiar to some of you Pokemon fans, that’s because it seems eerily similar to 1998’s ‘Pokémon: The First Movie – Mewtwo Strikes Back’. It follows the same story of Mewtwo being an experiment and wanting to exact revenge against the humans. It’s up to Ash, Pikachu and their friends to stop them!

So what is different about this Pokemon film? Well, not only does the story differ a little, but it is also the first Pokemon film released for Netflix. Traditionally, Pokemon is an animated show or anime style. This is the first Pokémon film to be made in CGI. While this doesn’t take anything away from the content of the film, there’s just something about it that doesn’t feel right.

Seeing Pokemon outside of it’s traditionally animated pictures is odd. It seems though that they are trying to redesign and market for a new, younger generation. That’s completely understandable. Why try to fix what ain’t broken though? At any rate, you will be able to check it out on Netflix next month.

The trailer doesn’t make it look bad though, and the CGI is well done. It does look enjoyable. However, if you’re a Pokemon traditionalist, this may not be the film for you. Maybe you’re into the new style, and that’s alright too. What do you think about the new animation style and will you be watching it next month? Let us know in the comments below!
