Netflix's 'Medical Police' Releases January 10 - An Hilarious Satire Starring Rob Huebel

Netflix keeps hitting them out of the park! A new series coming January 10, Medical Police, is a satire that openly mocks police and hospital shows. Medical Police stars Rob Huebel and Erinn Hayes. Similarly, you may recognize that they starred together in Adult Swim’s Children’s Hospital.

According to the summary of the show on IMDB, “Two American physicians in São Paulo, Brazil, discover a civilization-threatening virus and are recruited as government agents in a race against time and around the world to find a cure and uncover a dark conspiracy.”

If we didn’t know any better, this would sound like a pretty serious show. Thankfully, we have the trailer to show us the amount of spoof and satire to let us know what we’re getting ourselves into.

Netflix’s ‘Medical Police’ Releases on January 10

Medical Police points fun at the serious popular television shows. Although, they poke at the over-dramatic acting and situations, instead, enlarging them. This is perfectly executed by the duo of Huebel and Hayes. Their chemistry that they’ve worked together on for years culminates in this performance.

More comedy stars and Children’s Hospital alumni make appearances. Craig Robinson (Hot Tub Time Machine, Zack & Miri), Rob Corddry (Hot Tub Time Machine, Children’s Hospital), and Ken Marino (Role Models, The League) all join the show. Perhaps the most interesting casting is Corddry. According to his IMDB listing, he’s credited as Dr. Blake Downs. This is his character from Children’s Hospital.

The description under the trailer jokes about Medical Police being “totally not a spin-off” of Children’s Hospital. While clearly it is though, because of the recurring characters. Both Huebel and Hayes’ characters are continuations of their Children’s Hospital characters, so we can expect to see more carryover from it.

What Should You Expect From This Show?

If you’re unfamiliar with Children’s Hospital, it should be noted that this is not a friendly family comedy. Children’s Hospital aired on Adult Swim and featured very crude, dark humor. I’d expect Netflix to use this to their benefit. Since they don’t have to cater to television rules and regulations they can decide what their own content is.

However, I could see Netflix using this as an opportunity. An opportunity to take the content and make it more family-friendly, at least for teenagers and up. Whether or not they choose to follow along the same dark and crude humor is unknown, but it may be what viewers are expecting.

Medical Doctors will be available to view next month, January 10th.
