A new Netflix series, Soundtrack releases this month, December 18th and the trailer is out now! So what do we know about Soundtrack, who’s in it, and what do we know about it? Honestly, the cast is deep and diverse and the trailer seems to tell us a lot about the two main characters but not much is said about the overall story. It is obvious that music will have a large effect on the series, featuring several original songs and videos to accompany the show.
“Every song is a song about love,” seems to be the mantra of the trailer, describing several types of songs that all revolve around a feeling about love, whether it be the excitement of the first kiss, longing and sadness or even anger. Can love truly be broken down into different forms of songs though?
‘Soundtrack’ – Music & Story
Soundtrack will feature an “eclectic modern-day musical drama features songs by Amy Winehouse, Etta James, Bruno Mars, The Weeknd and more” according to the official Netflix page for Soundtrack and is about “Love, loss and transformative luck intersect in this musical drama about two struggling artists experiencing life at full volume in Los Angeles.”
The series looks to build around the core two characters of Sam (Paul James) and Nellie (Callie Hernandez), as they bump into each other on the street and share the classic “love at first sight”. This is just the beginning of what looks to be a long journey, however, as they will have to work through themselves and own goals as they focus on each other at the same time.
The trailer for Soundtrack takes us from the beginning of Sam and Nellie meeting, through their ups and downs of presumably living together and to a hospital scene with Nellie after being in an accident. Some viewers are saying that it may have given away too much of the premise while others are excited about the musical series, it’s up to you to decide.
The Cast Of ‘Soundtrack’
Soundtrack has a great cast behind it. Following Paul James and Callie Hernandez as the main characters of Sam and Nellie, we’ll be introduced to Megan Ferguson (The Disaster Artist, Surburbicon), Oscar nominee Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Secrets and Lies, RoboCop), and Jenna Dewan (Step Up, Take the Lead).
The first season of Soundtrack will consist of 10 episodes, whether they will be released one at a time or all at once on December 18th is not known yet. You will be able to watch it, of course, only on Netflix.
