Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly in talks for a new project with Netflix, focusing on the story of Princess Diana’s life and death. This potential documentary is part of a bid to extend the Sussexes’ partnership with the streaming giant, even as their current $99.5 million deal nears its end.
According to sources in Los Angeles, the proposed documentary is timed to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Princess Diana’s tragic passing in August 1997. The project is envisioned as a “solo” endeavor for Prince Harry, who would take on a significant role as co-executive producer, host, and narrator.
Netflix Eyes New Deal with Harry and Meghan for Princess Diana Documentary
The Sussexes have previously collaborated with Netflix on various projects, most notably their 2022 documentary, “Harry & Meghan.” This new series aims to delve deeper into Princess Diana’s life and legacy, exploring her lasting impact as a social and cultural icon.
Despite the impending expiration of their existing agreement, Netflix appears eager to maintain its relationship with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. This potential documentary could pave the way for a renewed contract between the couple and the streaming service.
While discussions are ongoing, no final decisions have been made regarding the specifics of a new contract. The Princess Diana documentary is tentatively slated for release in 2027, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of her death.
Meghan Markle’s recent Netflix series, “With Love, Meghan,” debuted this spring and achieved some success, reaching the top 10 list in both the UK and US. Netflix co-chief executive officer Ted Sarandos has defended the Duchess’s work, describing Harry and Meghan as “the jewels in our crown.”
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams has suggested that the Sussexes must maintain their partnership with Netflix, as their initial contract is set to expire. While the terms of a new agreement may differ from the original plan, it appears likely that some form of collaboration will continue.
