NBC ‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Guilty pleasure
First, we’ll say that we’d never seen the show Columbo until recently. For those who don’t know, it’s a detective series that ran from 1968 until 2002. It’s really a series of mystery movies that starred Peter Faulk as Lt. Columbo, a homicide detective.
He’d be brought in partway through the episode, with us already knowing who the killer is. However, the fun was in watching Columbo quickly catch on to the guilty party and take them down. Depending on how miserable the person would make his life, Columbo would get more creative with the takedown.
This show boasted tons of big-name guest stars, including William Shatner, Faye Dunaway, and Jack Cassidy. So, it’s no surprise that some daytime stars also spent some time with the TV detective.
NBC ‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Past and future co-stars
The episode we’re talking about, “Columbo Cries Wolf” starred Deidre Hall and Ian Buchanan. ‘Days of Our Lives’ spoilers reveal Hall is known as Dr. Marlena Evans on the hit series and recently had to deal with the possibility her husband, John Black (Drake Hogestyn) killed Charlie Dale (Mike Manning).
In this episode, Hall played Diane Hunter. She’s a majority owner of a Playboy-like publication, and the business partner of Buchanan’s Sean Brantley.
Later on, the actor would do a four-episode stint on DOOL as Lord Sheraton. Of course, at the time, he was better known for his role as Duke Lavery on General Hospital.
The two actors got to really stretch themselves and their characters in this episode, as you see them friendly and working together for a common cause, while also being at odds. This is where things got fun.

Now, we don’t want to say much here. It’ll spoil a great moment, which you can check out by looking up the episode on Peacock.
What we will say is, the twist in the episode was great, and we loved seeing Columbo in a situation he’d never been in before, which made the ending all the more satisfying. As for Hall, this episode was a door into another side of the actress.
As newer viewers to DOOL, we’re used to Hall as Marlena. ‘Days of Our Lives’ spoilers reveal she’s a patient person who is usually the coolest head in the town. Of course, she can be pushed to snap a bit at people, as she’s had plenty of reason to in recent months.
However, she’s pretty much the kindest person in town, in our opinion. And seems respected by most of the residents. That wasn’t the case for Diane Hunter.
This character had a rougher edge to her and wasn’t shy about being a little shady in a couple of respects. Not things we can see Marlena doing.
And Buchanan played his role to perfection, making you completely hate him, while also being a bit disturbed by his insane resemblance to Xander Cook (Paul Telfer). If you want to see them in a different light—and enjoy the big show at the end—you definitely don’t want to miss this one.
