‘Nailed It!’ Shuts Down Production as Crew Walk Off Set

‘Nailed It!’, the popular unscripted baking show hit for Netflix, has reportedly shut down production midway through its 7th season Nailed It: Halloween!

     “Wheeeeeeeeesssssss!”

Almost all of the 50 crew members involved in the Nicole Byer hosted series have gone on strike in an attempt to gain a first IATSE ( International Cinematographers Guild union) contract.

The strike began on Monday evening, with workers picketing the show’s producers, Magical Elves at the Quixote Stages in Los Angeles the following morning.

IATSE Local 600 has beseeched its members to not cross the picket line.

“Brief discussions” have occurred according to a union spokesperson, however, the issue is far from being resolved.

What does this mean for Netflix and for fans who tune in to witness the hilarious baking flops each season?

4 episodes of the seventh season– all with a Halloween theme– have been filmed so far with Nicole Byer, Jacques Torres and celebrity guests all filling the judging panel as usual. The season was slated to be eight episodes long, as per a regular season, however, it is unlikely the last four episodes will be filmed or make it to air with the indie production company and Netflix agreeing not to proceed with the second half of the season amid the strike.

The crew was told that production on the season had wrapped and to collect their gear Tuesday afternoon.

Now the question is whether an eighth season will ever come to fruition.

The show, which sets up inexperienced bakers for failure as they attempt to recreate virtually impossible to make cakes, cookies and other stylized bakes has been nominated for five Emmys and is a fan favorite on Netflix.

While no resolution looks to be in sight just yet, crew members on other Magical Elves production; Top Chef Family Style, and the cancelled-after-two-seasons, Fashion Star won IATSE contracts before continuing on with production on their shows.

Reps for Magical Elves did not respond to requests for comment from several publications including The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline. Netflix have not make a statement on how they would proceed with future editions of the show, either.

The finished four episodes of Nailed It: Halloween! will run on Netflix in the fall of 2022.
