The modeling industry has always been dogged by controversy, due to the increasing expectations that people have to abide by when it comes to their weight.
Not only that, but the career of a model post their thirties is very difficult to sustain. And yet, the 68-year-old wanted to show that beauty does not go away in spite of people getting older.
In a post to her fans on Instagram, Christie shared a series of pictures including Sharon Stone and Oprah Winfrey. The post was captioned by the following comments: “We are constantly being categorized because of our age.
“Age stereotypes and rules that our culture has defined for us abound. Even the expression “aging gracefully” should not be about one’s looks but about the attitude and energy one offers the world.”
Christie does have a point for the following reasons. First of all, this becomes a serious issue if age is the deciding factor in whether someone is capable of doing a job, especially when age is not a part of the job description.
Secondly, at a time where inclusivity is being promoted, ageism is hardly something that fits in line with those views. Therefore, Christie wanted to highlight the accomplishments that major celebrities had done, despite their increasing age as evidence of that.
She added: “The women on this list are so accomplished and have contributed so much beauty to the world with their work.
“But the subtle constant categorizing of women by age, making us feel like we are approaching some exponential expiration date gnaws away at one’s confidence.”
Christie has certainly left her own mark on the modeling profession. But the reality is that in an increasing number of competitive Industries, there has always been the philosophy that people need replacing when they reach a certain point.
This has resulted in experience often being shunned at the expense of youth. And that is a problem that is sadly always going to be there. So what do you think about this?
