Mila Kunis recalled how she was shocked to see Will Smith get an applause for his slapgate incident.
Mila Kunis Recalls Being Shocked At Will Smith Getting An Applause Following Slapgate Incident
The actor generated a lot of controversy at the 2022 Oscars when he slapped comedian Chris Rock in response to his joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair loss. That subsequently tarnished Will’s reputation as his ‘Best Actor Award’ was followed up by a 10-year Oscar ban.
But in and amongst that, Will did receive an applause as names such as Timothee Chalamet and Jason Momoa allegedly stood up. And that left Mila shocked at what had happened. After all, Mila was there with her husband Ashton Kutcher, but they both did not stand.
In her comments, she said: “Not standing up to me was a no-brainer, but what was shocking to me was how many people did stand up. I thought, wow, what a time we’re living in that rather than do what’s right, people focus on doing what looks good. It’s insane to me.”
But that was not the only source of controversy. Tiffany Haddish infamously came out to address the incident by stating how proud she was to see Will standing up for his wife.
And at a time where there were serious concerns that something major could have happened, especially since Chris on another day may have reacted to this, it was totally bizarre to see Will being defended. In her comments at the time, Tiffany stated: “When I saw a Black man stand up for his wife. That meant so much to me.”
The fans on social media read the incident in a different light. A certain subset recognised that the audience may have acted out impulse, which is why their behaviour was so out of character. One person wrote: “People do strange things in the initial stages of shock.”
It is fair to say that this was not the finest moment at the Oscars. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
