Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher composed letters of support before Masterson was sentenced. The sentence was 30 years to life in prison for being found guilty of two rape charges.
Kunis and Kutcher are married to each other, as they met on the set of “That 70’s Show,” where they met Masterson.
The prosecutor alleged that these attacks took place somewhere between 2001 and 2003. Kutcher and Kunis wrote two separate letters to Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Charlaine Olmedo.
Everything they said about Masterson was all positive. Kutcher said Masterson has “nothing but a positive influence on me.”
Ashton Kutcher’s Words To Paint Masterson in a Flattering Light
Kutcher described Masterson as honest and has never deceived him in the 25 years they have been friends.
He said he is fortunate to have Masterson in his life because he helped him not to get into the stereotypical party life and drug use that actors tend to gravitate toward.
He claims that Masterson would often discourage him from becoming friends with people who do drugs. Masterson was supposedly the anchor of the group.
Kutcher admits that he never wanted to use drugs because he thought that Masterson would not want to be friends with him if he were to do that.
He told a story about Masterson defending a young woman whose boyfriend verbally abused her in a pizza parlor.
Kutcher ends his plea by saying that even though Masterson has been accused of rape, and the two women were seeking justice, it would be “unjust” for Masterson’s child, (Fianna Francis, whom he shares with Bijou Phillips) to grow up without her father. This situation was supposed to pull at the Judge’s heartstrings.
Further Support of Masterson
Kunis echoed her husband’s sentiment about Masterson being a good influence on her and others, also talking about his discouragement of drug use.
She said that Masterson is a family man and a loving Father.
Other “That 70’s Show” alums wrote letters of support for Masterson, including Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith.
The creators of the Netflix show “The Ranch,” Jim Patterson and William Baldwin, also wrote letters of support. Of course, Masterson’s wife, Bijou Phillips, also wrote a letter to sway the Judge.
Masterson pleaded not guilty and did not testify. He was found guilty of two counts of rape. The jury could not reach a verdict for the third count.
Ultimately, the Judge wasn’t drinking the Danny Masterson Kool-Aid and sentenced Masterson to 30 years to life for his crimes.
Ironically, Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis shared a video on Instagram apologizing for their letters to defend Masterson only after he had been found guilty.
“We support victims,” they claimed. “We have this historically through our work and will continue to do so in the future,” Kunis said.
They continued to say that Masterson’s family had asked them to write letters to “represent the person we knew 25 years ago.”
Kunis said that their heart goes out to any woman who has been a victim of rape. The sudden support for the victims was curious timing.
