Matthew McConaughey has confirmed that he will not be running for Governor of Texas.
Matthew McConaughey Will Not Run For Governor Of Texas
The Hollywood actor had been mulling over the decision for some time, given that he had become increasingly dissatisfied with both the Republican Party and Democrats over their handling of the pandemic as well as other local issues.
His cause had been supported by the fact that a recent poll held by the University of Texas and Dallas Morning News showed Matthew ahead of the two other candidates: Republican Greg Abbott and Democrat candidate Beto O’Rourke.
But given that he has made the decision to drop out, it has left the locals a little disappointed, given that Mathew could have posed a significant alternative to the two-party system.
In a post to his fans on Twitter, the actor said: “As a simple kid born in the town of Uvalde, Texas, it never occurred to me that I would one day be considered for political leadership.
“It’s a humbling and inspiring path to ponder. It is also a path that I am choosing not to take at this moment.” This begs the question, why did Matthew pull out of the race?
Well, it looks as though he might not have believed in the political process. After all, why would somebody decide to drop out if the polls suggested he was on course for victory?
This would only have galvanised his campaign and let him potentially make history. In a prior interview, Mathew remarked: “Politicians, the good ones can help us get where we need to go, yeah.
“But let’s be clear: They can’t do anything for us unless we choose to do for ourselves.” The previous comments would suggest that Matthew has called on people to take charge of their lives rather than look to the political arena for all the answers.
The response on social media was a mixed one. While some people welcomed this news, others were a tad aggrieved that Mathew did not go through with the campaign.
One person on Twitter wrote: “Please stay out of politics Beto is it,” while another stated: “Polls literally show McConaughey beating Abbott while Beto ORourke trails far behind.”
