The musician has managed to break the mould when it comes to the image that is expected for those in the entertainment industry. While that may be seen as breaking barriers, in reality, Lizzo has received backlash for that.
Even Kanye West recently stated that Lizzo had received attacks on social media due to losing weight via the help of a mutual personal trainer that they knew. With that being said, Lizzo wanted to let everyone know in no uncertain terms that she had been hurt on one occasion when she was insulted over her image.
In her comments, she said: “People have been calling me fat my entire life, but that was the first time seeing an insult of how I looked, who I am, and my music wrapped into one, and it really hurt me.”
Lizzo did not reveal what the nature of the insult had been, or the person that was responsible for it. Instead, she did not want to give that person any unnecessary attention. Her focus was to simply show others that it was possible to overcome personal attacks and be a success.
In the process of doing so, she hopes that her story resonates with others, particularly those of a younger generation. Her following comments confirmed as much: “So if they can see me get through it on the level and the scale I’m experiencing it, maybe they’ll think they can get through it, too…F–k them!”
The fans on social media praised Lizzo for staying true to herself. As a result, they felt that her natural beauty came across well. One person wrote: “She’s just so beautiful.”
