Lisa Guerrero claims her one season working as a reporter for “Monday Night Football” was the worst of her life, stating she really miscarried while working the job. The 58-year-old, who succeeded Melissa Stark as “MNF” in the 2003 NFL season, detailed the terrifying circumstance in her most recent book, Warrior: My Path to Being Brave.
She claimed that she was unfairly mocked and criticized by men in the sports industry ever since she started working there, especially by her employer at “MNF,” executive producer Freddie Gaudelli. In her memoir, Guerrero said that Gaudelli frequently critiqued her work and that this, combined with the misogynistic abuse she frequently received from viewers, caused her such stress that she had really pondered taking her own life.
Guerrero, who became pregnant while dating former MLB pitcher Scott Erickson, claims that the pressure eventually reached a breaking point late in the year when she miscarried while working.
Lisa Guerrero Says She Suffered A Miscarriage On The Sideline Of A ‘Monday Night Football’ Game In 2003
The former “Best Damn Sports Show Period” host said in the book—according to a PEOPLE excerpt—that she was reporting from the sidelines when she suddenly experienced severe abdominal pain. She remarked, “I could feel blood leaking,” moments later.
Guerrero claimed that she needed to perform a live shoot before she could run to the restroom. During the hit, she claimed she felt “dizzy and nauseated.” She eventually found her way to the bathroom. Guerrero claimed that she kept the incident a secret from others and finished her work for the evening before leaving for the airport.
“I don’t blame one person for this,” said Guerrero. “The miscarriage wasn’t because of Freddie, and it wasn’t because of one radio talk show host or one bad column. It was a culmination of the entire season of negativity and cruelty. It was really cruel.”
