King Charles has joined world leaders in paying tribute to Pope Francis after his passing at age 88. The Pope died on Monday morning after he was able to share an Easter Greeting on Sunday at the Church, despite doctors’ warnings, as he was firmly devoted to his calling.
The King’s Message About The Death Of Pope Francis
A statement was issued from Buckingham Palace this morning. The King wrote,
“My wife and I were most deeply saddened to learn of the death of Pope Francis.”
He continued,
“Our heavy hearts have been somewhat eased, however, to know that His Holiness was able to share an Easter Greeting at the Church and the world he served with such devotion throughout his life and ministry.”
The monarch added,
“His Holiness will be remembered for his compassion, his concern for the unity of the Church, and his tireless commitment to the common causes of all people of faith and to those of goodwill who work for the benefit of others.”
Charles continued,
“His belief that care for creation is an existential expression of faith in God resounded for both people and planet.”
“Through his work and care for both people and planet, he profoundly touched the lives of so many. The Queen and I remember our meetings with His Holiness over the years with affection, and we were greatly moved to have been able to visit him earlier in the month,”
He shared.
He concluded with,
“We send our most heartfelt condolences and profound sympathy to the Church he served with such resolve and to the countless people around the world who, inspired by his life, will be mourning the devastating loss of this faithful follower of Jesus Christ.”
Charles And Camilla Visited The Pope Last Month
Charles may cancel upcoming engagements out of respect for Pope Francis to attend his funeral as he did for Pope John Paul II twenty years ago.
The Pope spent his last few months battling health issues, including pneumonia. In recent years, he also had two abdominal surgeries and several serious respiratory infections.
Francis’s cause of death was a cerebral stroke and irreversible heart failure. His death certificate states that the Pope had fallen into a coma earlier that day.
Pope Francis blessed thousands of faithful gathered in St. Peter’s Square for Easter Mass on Sunday. His final Easter address called for an end to violence worldwide and compassion for the world. Archbishop Diego Ravelli read the Pope’s message.
The Pope said in his Easter address,
“On this day, I would like to call all of us to hope anew and revive our trust in others, including those who are different from ourselves, or come from distant lands, bringing unfamiliar customs, ways of life and ideas! For all of us are children of God!”
Just last month, King Charles and Queen Camilla called on the Pope in private on their 20th wedding anniversary. The encounter took place at the Vatican’s Casa Santa Marta.
Charles and the Pope wished each other well as they were both struggling with their health in recent months: Charles with his cancer diagnosis and the Pope with his ailments.
Pope Francis has been the leader of the Catholic Church since March 2013. He will be remembered for his humility, generosity, and his progressive approach to human rights and social justice. And his remarkable legacy of faith, love, and compassion.
