King Charles III has expressed his condolences to those who experienced the earthquake in Turkey and Syria.

King Charles III Reacts To The Earthquake In Turkey And Syria-‘I Can Only Begin To Imagine The Scale Of Suffering’

Following the destructive 7.8-magnitude earthquake and its consequences, he spoke out about the high number of casualties – 7,800 people in total, with 5,894 deaths in Turkey and a minimum of 1,932 in Syria.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) cautioned that the death toll caused by the disaster could rise to as high as 20,000 as emergency services are still trying to save people buried in the wreckage. WHO estimates that more than 23 million people in both countries have been affected by the incident.

With that being said, this is what the monarch had to say: “My wife and I have been most shocked and profoundly saddened by the news of the devastating earthquakes in South East Türkiye. I can only begin to imagine the scale of suffering and loss as a result of these dreadful tragedies.”

There has already been a response from the UK following Charles’ comments. A contingent of 77 search and rescue personnel, advanced technological tools, and four canines landed in Turkey from the United Kingdom.

They touched down in Gaziantep, located in the southeastern region of the country, in order to lend a hand with the ongoing rescue operations. However, the delivery of aid to Syria which was also struck by an earthquake has been hindered by economic sanctions and the destruction of the only route used to transport assistance from Turkey into the nation.

The response on social media was much the same. Large numbers of people came out in droves to send warm words in light of this devastating incident. Meanwhile, others were of the view that the monarch should be doing more.

One person wrote: “Charles, how about putting you hand into your deep pockets and passing over a million or two, that you can well afford, to help those that have lost everything including their loved ones.”

So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below. If you liked reading this article, then check out our other features on the Daily Soap Dish.
