King Charles III Is Playing A 'Clever Long Game' With Harry And Meghan

According to historian David Starkey, King Charles III is engaging in a strategic ‘long game’ with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Harry revealed in the revealing Netflix documentary that he himself was the one who had chosen to leave the firm after a discussion at Sandringham, as opposed to Meghan, where the notion of leading a less prominent royal life was rejected.

Meanwhile, King Charles III didn’t involve his youngest son and his wife in his initial Christmas Day speech and now Starkey has suggested that the King is just allowing the situation to run its course.

In his comments, Starkey said: “What I think Charles is doing is actually playing a rather clever long game. He’s just letting events take their course, which I think is a very wise thing to do.”

With that being said, on Christmas Day, Charles spoke to the public and expressed his sympathies to those who have had family members pass away during 2020. He remarked on Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, and also brought attention to the issue of the rising cost of living.

Even though Prince William and Kate Middleton were mentioned, Charles did not utter a single word in regard to Harry and Meghan. Grant Harrold, who used to be Charles’ butler at Highgrove estate for seven years, said that the decision was wise and it made a lot of sense.

The response on social media, though, was not too sympathetic towards Charles. This was on the basis that people felt he should be doing more to resolve things between the Sussexes than he was doing currently.

One person wrote: “If he was any kind of a decent father he would be trying to resolve whatever issues his son and daughter-in-law have instead of paying games.” We will have to see how this will play out moving forward.
