King Charles is officially backed into a corner with his youngest son, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle over demands for security.
Harry Would Blame Charles for Not Intervening On His Security Issue
Harry’s invitation for his father to join him when the Invictus Games returns to the UK in July 2027 is another issue.
Charles can’t really win here, as Harry and his team have used their sway with the press to spread a false narrative that he’ll definitely receive security when he comes to the UK.
That way, Harry can reunite the King with his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet. Charles hasn’t seen them since the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022.
Last week, the Times reported that Harry’s team wasn’t truthful. Yet sources close to the Sussexes claimed that his taxpayer-funded security is set in stone.
If he wins, there will be significant backlash from the British public. However, if he doesn’t win, he’ll blame his father for not intervening.
Harry is pressuring Charles to intervene on his behalf and restore his security for his upcoming visit to the UK. Meghan has already said that if their security is restored, she’ll show up in Britain with her husband.
Sources said that Harry has extended an olive branch to the King, as he wants his father to attend next summer’s Invictus Games, which makes sense given Charles’ position as Head of the Armed Forces.
However, it puts Charles between a rock and a hard place, since his ties to the Armed Forces could make the King seem too closely aligned with Harry and Meghan’s self-serving, inauthentic agenda.
The Invictus Games are intrinsically tied to Harry and Meghan to such an extent that it’s impossible to separate them.
The Invictus Games give Harry and Meghan Publicity
It’s become more focused on Harry’s ego while losing sight of who the Invictus Games are supposed to help. It’s only an avenue for Harry and Meghan’s publicity.
If the King doesn’t participate, he’ll look like he doesn’t support the veterans, which wouldn’t be a good look for Charles.
As Head of the Armed Forces, Charles is under pressure to take part in Harry’s event. The two of them haven’t really reconciled, so it’s a weird position for His Majesty to be in.
A genuine, personal reconciliation between father and son would be wonderful, but it would only serve the Sussex publicity machine.
That said, Harry is very good at the Invictus Games. We’ve seen him interact with veterans, families, and kids, and he’s approachable and fun.
Yet, we’ve also seen Meghan at the Invictus Games. She’s awkward, usually ends up hanging all over Harry, and generally puts on a show solely for photo ops.
The last time the King and Harry met together in person was in September 2025 for a “peace summit.” Afterward, the details of their visit were somehow leaked to the press.
Prince Harry’s team swears they didn’t share any of his interactions with his father. The Duke of Sussex and his PR team then blamed the leak on Palace insiders.
It’s led to mistrust on both sides. At the time, they described the meeting as a “positive first step towards reconciliation with King Charles and a “necessary channel to move forward.” As always, Harry’s indiscretion was a disappointment for Charles.
