Kate Middleton returned to her St. Patrick’s Day duties in London today as Irish Guards saluted her at the annual parade to celebrate the occasion.
The event is particularly exceptional this year as the regiment celebrates its 125th anniversary. Kate missed the event last year due to her cancer treatment.
Kate Middleton Arrived At The St. Patrick’s Celebration Bearing Gifts
She came to the celebration earlier today bearing gifts. The Princess of Wales inspected the troops and handed out festive sprigs of shamrocks to soldiers from the Irish Guards and presented them with medals.
Kate told each soldier, “Happy St. Patrick’s Day,” as they came forward to receive their shamrock. They were thrilled to finally see Kate Middleton again.
She also gave out long service and good conduct medals to Colour Sergeant Healy, Sgt Ben Beavis, Sgt Kristian Pooley, and the Operation Shader medal to Sgt Jamie Davies. They then marched onto the parade square, led by their dog mascot.
Kate made another lovely gesture. After presenting the guards with their shamrocks, she knelt to pet the regimental mascot, an adorable Irish Wolfhound named Seamus and gave the pup his sprig of shamrock and gently pinned it to his red coat.
Seamus’s handler said the moment was very special and that it was wonderful to see Princess Catherine come out and meet everyone, especially Seamus.
“We had a lovely chat about animals,”
He exclaimed.
“She said he’s being well-behaved, and I said he is, but he can be unpredictable,”
Seamus’s handler admitted.
“She laughed and said horses are the worst. She loves all animals,”
He disclosed.
Princess Kate was named the Colonel of the Irish Guards in 2022, but she has commemorated St. Patrick’s day with the guards for much longer.
The Princess Missed Last Year’s Parade Due To Cancer Treatment
Kate Middleton has spent almost every St. Patrick’s Day with the soldiers since she married Prince William in 2011. She told the guards that she had missed taking part in the ceremony for the last two years.
The Princess looked stunning in a dark green ensemble and matching hat designed by Alexander McQueen.
She accessorized her outfit with a symbolic 18-karat yellow gold shamrock brooch, which the Queen Mother and Princess Anne previously wore.
After the parade, the future Queen met with several veterans of the Irish Guards and their families, as well as junior cadets from Northern Ireland known as Mini Micks.
During a private ceremony, Kate was seen drinking from a half pint of Guinness beer as the soldiers raised their Guinness glasses and toasted their Colonel of the Irish Guards.
The Irish Guards gave an enthusiastic three cheers for the Princess of Wales. Kate looked radiant as she was beaming when she arrived at Wellington Barracks, where many of her fans were waiting to capture a glimpse of the Princess.
Kate posed for group photos with Officers and Guardsman. She laughed when two small boys wandered into one of the shots.
The last time Kate took part in the St. Patrick’s Day parade was in 2023 when she visited the Irish Guards with Prince William at Mons Barracks in Aldershot, Hampshire, after she took over the role of colonel from her husband.
