Kanye West is the latest celebrity to honour the late DMX, who had sadly passed following his drug overdose.
Kanye West Raises Over A Million Dollars For DMX’s Family
DMX was rushed into emergency medical care, but the best medical care was not enough to save him as he suffered a cardiac arrest and died. In a statement at the time, the family told People magazine the following: “Earl [DMX] was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart… Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world, and his iconic legacy will live on forever.”
And one of those people who had been inspired by DMX was Kanye. Now, though, he is looking to give back to the late rapper. He set up a fundraiser designed to help the family of DMX. After all, he left behind his partner Desiree Lindstrom to look after their 4-year-old son Exodus. Kanye used his connections to create a custom made DMX hoodie that would be sold.
Kanye felt it was only right that he should do his part. In a post by the family on DMX’s Instagram, they announced Kanye’s plans to go ahead with this touching gesture. They said: “Balenciaga has been asked by Yeezy[Kanye’s record label] to design a T-shirt in tribute to the late artist Earl Simmons, aka DMX.A tribute to the artist and his fans with net proceeds benefiting Simmons’s family.”
As of now, there has been an excess of a million dollars raised, and that is likely to continue. But there were other things that Kanye did behind the scenes that people may not know about. The rapper had reportedly been instrumental in setting up the recent tribute that had occurred in New York on behalf of DMX.
While Kanye does get his share of criticism, which often is justified, he should be praised when he does things right. We have to remember that he has his own problems at the moment. He is undergoing a divorce settlement to the mother of his kids, Kim Kardashian. But he put all that aside to make sure that DMX was honoured. It is great to see Kanye have a positive influence.
