Britney Spears’ wish to live a life of independence has taken a huge blow after the court denied her request to remove her father, Jamie Spears, from his role as conservator of her estate.

The pair have been in a heated battle over who should have control over the financial affairs of the singer. The tide seemed to be turning after Britney made some shocking disclosures publicity over the treatment she had been receiving from her father and likened it to that of a victim of sex trafficking.
And yet, it was not enough to sway the judge who ruled in Jamie’s favour. In the court’s ruling, the judge remarked: “The conservatee’s request to suspend James P Spears immediately upon the appointment of Bessemer Trust Company Of California, NA as sole conservator of the estate is denied without prejudice.”
The news will come as a bitter blow to Britney, who has been under her father’s control for the last 13 years. Although he did step down in 2019 due to his ill health, he was replaced by Britney’s caregiver Jodi Montgomery, but the same issues remained in place.
Britney was concerned that this was an attempt to get her father out of the way, but simply have someone else who would carry on in the same manner. Britney’s legal team confirmed as much: “Ms Spears told the court on June 23 that she is opposed to being under a conservatorship and revealed her ongoing disputes with Ms Montgomery.”
It is not clear where Britney will go from here. She may take the decision to pursue legal action against Jodi. But given the amount of strain it has put on her health, Britney will need to decide carefully if she wants to throw herself into another court battle. This is especially true given that Jodi is willing to fight her corner as well.
In response to Britney’s claims, Jodi’s legal team stated: “Jodi Montgomery has been a tireless advocate for Britney…and if Britney wants any issue brought up to the court, Ms Montgomery is and has always been ready, willing, and able to do so.”
