JoJo Siwa has been celebrating her one-year anniversary following her decision to come out.

JoJo Siwa Celebrates Following A Year Since Her Coming Out Journey

The 18-year-old has become a modern-day icon by virtue of the fact that her coming out journey was accompanied by a huge piece of history.

She became the first ever member of the ‘LGBTQ’ community to participate on the hit TV show ‘Dancing with the Stars.’  Not only that, but she took things to the next level when she walked away with the title as she was crowned champion.

That is why she could not help but look back at what has been a memorable year for her. In a post to her fans on Instagram, JoJo shared a picture of herself wearing a black t-shirt with the words ‘Best Gay Cousin Ever’ written on it.

The post was captioned by the following comments: “A year ago today I posted this picture and shared with the world that I was gay. I get asked a lot was coming out scary for you.

“And the answer is yes of course, anything that’s different about you is scary, however… it’s what makes me… me. so I had no fear with sharing it with the world.”

And one of those people, who was central to her decision to come clean about her sexuality was none other than her ex-girlfriend Kylie Prew.

Although they are no longer together, the very fact of the matter is that their relationship was an integral part in JoJo becoming comfortable with who she was.

And yet, there was still a feeling that she struggled to deal with some of the negative backlash that ultimately came her way. The star previously spoke on how she became severely impacted by the trolls that came out on social media.

In a previous interview with People magazine, JoJo stated: “I was thinking that all the comments were going to be nice and supportive, and they weren’t.”

JoJo took a lot of courage when she made the decision to speak about her sexuality, and as long as she feels vindicated by what she has done, then that is the most important thing of all.
