‘Jeopardy!’ fans know there’s a new GOAT in town.

30 year old PhD student Matt Amodio now holds the record for second most consecutive wins in a row on the beloved quiz show.

After taking his 33rd victory on Friday night, Matt has beaten out James Holzhauer as second-longest running victor. The only man ahead of him now is Ken Jennings whose record of 74 consecutive wins back in 2004 is stuff of legend.

With his total winnings to date passing the $1.2 million mark, Matt also joins the prestigious three person ‘million dollar plus’ winner’s circle (in regular play)- the other two are- yup, Ken Jennings and James Holzhauer

Matt understands the gravity of his position and the company he is keeping.

“Ken’s always been the face of Jeopardy! to me, so when I think of Jeopardy!, I think of him,” he said after Friday’s victory. “To [be] right behind him is a surreal experience.”

Matt is also a big fan of James, with the two taking jabs at each other on Twitter- all in good fun.

After James flexed by comparing Matt’s 28 day winnings to his own, Matt shot back on the social media platform, quote retweeting James’ post and writing,

“Must be nice having time to throw shade on Twitter. Us #Jeopardy champions with 0 career losses have actual work to do.”

Matt was a little more complimentary on Thursday when he tweeted out, “Tomorrow on #Jeopardy I have the chance to remind everybody how much better than me @James_Holzhauer is in literally every way. It would be an honor to be unfavorably compared to a person I admire so much!”

Even though Matt has now pushed James, a professional sports gambler off the silver podium and onto the bronze when it comes to consecutive wins, James walked away from his 32 day winning streak with $2,464,216. $131,127 of that was from a single game.

Matt has a little bit to catch up to James’ winnings and Ken’s streak, but if he can hold on to the champion spot until the episodes airing from November onwards, he will not only be that much closer to surpassing Ken, he will also meet up with the GOAT when he takes his second turn behind the podium as guest host.

    Jeopardy! airs weeknights on NBC.
