Jennifer Lopez recently opened up about the enduring impact of the media frenzy that surrounded her and husband Ben Affleck during their initial romance over 20 years ago, stating that both still grapple with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) from that period. In an interview with Variety to promote her latest album and film, “This Is Me …
Now,” which delves into her current relationship with Ben and their 2022 marriage, J Lo reflected on the challenges they faced during their first go-around as a couple in the early 2000s.
Discussing their initial relationship, J Lo revealed that the media scrutiny they experienced at the time has left a lasting impact, leading to ongoing PTSD for both of them.
Originally planning to marry in 2003, the couple canceled their wedding and eventually went their separate ways. However, in 2021, they rekindled their romance and swiftly tied the knot the following year.
Jennifer Lopez Says Her And Ben Affleck Still Have PTSD From Their FIRST Relationship
Acknowledging the significant difference between then and now, J Lo emphasized that they now have a better grasp on handling the intense public scrutiny that accompanies fame. She attributed this newfound resilience to their maturity, stating, “we’re older” and “we’re wiser.”
According to J Lo, they have gained a deeper understanding of what truly matters in life, emphasizing the importance of staying true to oneself rather than being overly concerned with others’ opinions.
Despite this openness, J Lo admitted that some members of her team were not entirely supportive of her decision to publicly share the intimate details of her relationship with Ben.
The interview sheds light on the couple’s growth, resilience, and commitment to authenticity, showcasing their evolved perspective on fame and the challenges that come with it.
However, J Lo also said “as artists, we have to follow our heart and this is me following my heart and doing something that maybe everybody didn’t think was the best idea, but I had to do it.”
