Jennifer Aniston knew from the beginning where she wanted her career to go. And apparently, it was not in the romantic comedy direction. Hollywood director Peter Chelsom says that the “Friends” star passed up on the opportunity to play the leading role in the movie “Serendipity” simply because she didn’t want to be known as the “rom-com” queen. Here’s what you need to know.
Apparently, Jennifer said ‘thanks, but no thanks’ to starring as Sara, a role that ended up going to Kate Beckinsale. The movie also starred John Cusack. Peter told Insider that Jennifer wanted to step back a little from the rom com genre at the time.
Jennifer Aniston Passed On Movie Role Because She Didn’t Want to Be A Rom-Com Queen
“I distinctly remember Jennifer Aniston coming in to meet us,” he said. “I remember when she came in, she said, ‘I do a romantic comedy once a week,’ her being on ‘Friends’ at the time. So, she clearly had other things on her plate and it was her decision not to do it.”
Yet, Jennifer went on to play in a number of romantic comedies, including 2004’s “Along Came Polly,” 2005’s “Rumor Has It,” 2006’s “The Break-Up” and 2011’s “Just Go With It.”
“Serendipity” is about a couple that searches for each other years after the night they first met, fell in love, and separated, convinced that one day they’d end up together.
