Will’s decision to lash out at the comedian by slapping him at the Oscars in response to a joke he had made about Jada’s hair loss brought mass condemnation. So much so that he was given a 10-year Oscar ban, while Chris was praised for keeping his cool in a situation where he could have easily lashed out in kind.
But with so much having happened, Jada hoped that the pair could put this behind them and show a united front. In an interview on ‘Red Table Talk’ she said: “Now about Oscar night, my deepest hope is that these two intelligent, capable men have an opportunity to heal, talk this out and reconcile.
“The state of the world today, we need them both.” If there is any chance of reconciliation, surely the onus has to be on Will. After all, he was the one that had acted out of hand. Therefore, failure to reach out on his part would clearly demonstrate lack of remorse.
And ultimately, why would Chris decide to take a proactive approach since he was the one that had been wrong and subjected to violence. That was the nuance that Jada’s comments seemed to be lacking. And yet, she skipped over that part.
She added: “And we all actually need one another more than ever. Until then, Will and I are continuing to do what we have done for the last 28 years, and let’s keep figuring out this thing called life together.”
Ultimately, until the dust has settled down with Will’s next move becoming clearer, his reputation has been left damaged. And the longer that Chris and Will are not on good terms, then the more resentment that the public will harbour.
