Britney Spears has had a lot to say on social media. Since she finally started making progress in ending the conservatorship she lived under for 13 years, Spears hasn’t minced words. More than a few times, she’s called out her family as well as others. One of the more recent was Diane Sawyer, whose interview Spears said was forced upon her. This time, however, she might be ready to do it again of her own free will. Here’s what you need to know.
Britney Spears shows her chops
Recently, we covered Britney taking to her Instagram to do some riffs. In the text accompanying the post, she listed all of her musical accomplishments. Before doing so, she wrote, “I just realized this today guys … after what my family tried to do to me three years ago … I needed to be my own cheerleader.”
In the end of the post, she teased, “Pssss new song in the works … I’m gonna let you know what I mean.” We have to say we were surprised to hear some of the riffs, but there might be a bigger purpose to the post.
Is it Britney Spears?
Today, we saw a blind item that made us think of the singer. The item reads, “Some early plans are being made for the A list singer to do a sit down interview in her own home followed be the release of a small EP for her fans in Spring 2022. Not a full album, no tours, and no other interviews or promos will be booked.”
This would align with Spears teasing there is a new song in the works. It would also make a lot of sense for Spears to do a low-key release like this. She can take a small step back into the music world while not committing to the grind of a full album and tour at this point.
And it would make sense for her, now that she has a team around her she apparently trusts, to have one interview on her own turf. She can have her say and maybe be able to let go of some of the baggage she’s clearly carrying. But what would a Britney EP look like?
What’s next for Britney Spears
So, Britney Spears has always been known for her dancing first and foremost, as well as the iconic looks she’s donned over the years. With her recent Instagram post, she showed she can riff with some of the best. The slightly bluesy tone suited her and we can see her using a stripped-down sound that focuses on the vocals so she can show off what she’s capable of without her previous team’s interference.
We also believe Spears will, if this is true, have a hands-on approach, either writing material herself with co-writers or hand-picking every song. Given the singer’s alluded to having so much to say in her Instagram posts, we believe she’d go for the former rather than the latter.
And we believe it doesn’t take a lot of guesswork to know what the lyrics would be about. From what Britney has said so far, there’s definitely a lot of material in what she’s gone through. As well as she’ll finally get the chance to express other feelings she wasn’t able to previously. Either way, we think if this happens, it will be an EP that’s a can’t-miss.
Also, artists have a history of surprise releasing albums now or doing things with not a lot of fanfare. So, Britney should do just fine with a similar strategy. Her name alone, plus this being her first post-conservatorship release will definitely have people interested.
