India Arie has blasted podcast host Joe Rogan over his continuous use of the n-word.
India Arie Blasts Joe Rogan’s Use Of The N-Word-‘I Think He Is Being Consciously Racist’
India, for her part, had initially shared a video that then circulated showing Joe using the n-word. Although Joe did apologise in the aftermath, the very fact of the matter is that this incident did tarnish his reputation somewhat.
After all, it did come on the back end of controversial claims that he had been promoting Covid-19 misinformation.
India demanded that Spotify remove her music as a result of airing Joe’s views, which has now been followed up by a clear admission that she believes Joe to be a ‘racist.’
In an interview on the “The Daily Show”, she said: “There’s conscious racism… when you know you’re doing it… If you know you’re doing it, and you keep doing it, I would say that is racist.
“When I think of Joe Rogan, I think he is being consciously racist.” Joe, in his defence, claimed that the incident had happened a long time ago. Not only that, but he also stressed that his comments were taken out of context.
And yet, for India, she felt that was a feeble attempt at trying to defend himself. And in the process of doing so, he only went on to rile up more people, as it led to a certain number of fans demanding that Joe Rogan be canceled, as a consequence.
She added: “I think he knew there was no context. I think that’s why he was saying it because it got a rise out of people. He knew that was inappropriate…The fact that he did it repeatedly… I think that is being racist.”
However, not everyone was impressed by what India had to say. A small proportion of people felt that Joe’s words had to be viewed into the wider conversation that he was having, which can only be done on a case-by-case basis rather than simply branding him as a racist.
One person wrote: “We now see right through your obfuscation via systematically ignoring context. It’s manipulation at its finest.”
