Idris Elba has defended Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in the aftermath of their controversial interview on CBS.

This should be seen as no surprise given that the actor had attended their wedding. During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Idris spoke on the importance of letting people have their voices heard. He said: “I will say that everyone has to have their opportunity to speak up about what they feel, you know. You cannot take someone’s voice away. That’s all we have to communicate.”
Those comments were extremely powerful in light of the revelations from the interview. There had been accusations of racism, suicidal thoughts and mass media intrusion. It has had such a significant impact on other high profile stars as even Piers Morgan and Sharon Osbourne have suffered work-related consequences in light of their views on the interview.
Idris and Harry know each other from a variety of projects they have done together. The actor has been involved with The Prince’s Trust, a charity that would go on to help Idris make it as an actor. That is why he feels indebted to Harry. He added: “Harry and I have hung out a couple of times through his dad’s charity, The Prince’s Trust, which helped me out when I was a young actor.”
The wedding was a memorable moment for Idris. Not just because it was a part of history and a momentous occasion in its own right, but also because of the role that Idris played. He was given the mission of being in charge of the music as part of the celebrations, which emerged after the wedding. He continued: “Harry came to a couple of parties that I DJed, and he was like, ‘What are you doing on [May 19]?
“I told him nothing, and then he asked if I would DJ at his wedding.” Idris failed to comment on whether the accusations were true, and naturally, his friendship with Harry makes his stance on the issue very clear anyway. It will be interesting to see whether Idris and Harry will meet up during the latter’s intended visit to the UK in the summer.
