Hugh Jackman is confident that Australia will eventually transition into a republic.

The celebrity, known for his role as Wolverine, stated he held no ill-will against King Charles III, but this transformation was simply a progression for a nation. And this is telling in light of the fact that Jackman grew up in a household that was very fond of the monarchy.

Not only that, but the actor just so happens to hold British citizenship too. In his comments, he said: “I think Australia will become Republican at some point. It feels natural.

“It feels like something that is, I would guess inevitable, and I guess would be a natural part of an evolution of a country. You know…I have absolutely no ill-will and I only wish King Charles all the best.”

Much in the same way, Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has stated that ending the monarchy and transforming the country into a republic is inevitable. Recently, it was announced that King Charles III’s portrait would not be featured on the new Australian $5 note; instead, a design that pays tribute to indigenous culture will be included.

And yet, the leader declared that he would not ask Australians to vote on the contentious matter during his current tenure in office. After all, a referendum which suggested an alteration to a republic was voted down by a small margin in 1999. The response on social media was mixed.

A certain subset of people resonated with what Jackman had to say since the mood had changed following Queen Elizabeth II’s death. Meanwhile, others were of the view that the actor should avoid addressing political issues.

One person wrote: “Why do actors like to keep sticking their noses in things that don’t concern them,” while another person stated: “It should have happened years ago.”
