While Meghan Markle is not usually portrayed as a kind-hearted person, she is an animal lover, and she and Prince Harry have rescued several dogs. Our thoughts and prayers are with her and her family after her beloved pet dog, a beagle named Guy, passed away. Losing a pet is never easy, no matter who you are.

Meghan Markle Adopted Guy From A Dog Rescue In Canada

The Duchess revealed the devastating news on Instagram. Guy was set to appear on her new cooking show, “With Love Meghan.” The sweet pooch enjoyed a dog biscuit in the trailer, courtesy of Meghan’s American Riviera Orchard.

Meghan Markle admitted she’s cried “too many tears to count” and thanked Guy for years of “unconditional love.” Her Instagram showed pictures of Meghan cuddling with the dog in bed and keeping Prince Harry company.

“In Memory of Guy,” she wrote. She lives by the mantra, “Adopt not shot,” as she adopted her beagle from a dog rescue in Canada while still in Suits. The dog had been at a kill shelter in Kentucky and had been timestamped with only a few days to live.

The volunteers at the rescue called him “the little guy” as he was small and frail. Meghan shortened it to “Guy.”
Her Instagram featured some memories of Guy. In one clip, her five-year-old Archie exclaims, “he might fall,” as the pup sits with Archie and Meghan Markle in the backseat with Harry driving.

“He’s not gonna fall, don’t you worry, Mama has him,” Meghan said. “Thank you for being such a good boy!”

There was also an adorable clip of Harry cheering Guy on as he was walking down the beach. The dog was a huge part of Meghan’s life, as he was with her for every key moment since she adopted him.

“If you followed me on Instagram back in the day, you saw a lot of him, and on The Tig, too, she explained. “He was with me at Suits, when I got engaged (and then married), when I became a mom, he was with me for everything: the quiet, the chaos, the calm, the comfort,”

    She recalled.

Right before Meghan Markle  moved to the UK, Guy was in an accident, had several surgeries, and had to stay at the animal hospital. She and Harry would drive late at night to see him in Surrey while he recovered.

Meghan said Guy is in her new show and believes her fans will fall in love with him as she did. Guy stole the spotlight.

Meghan was a patron of UK animal welfare charity Mayhew. She’s an animal advocate, and one of the first patronages she got involved with when she was a working royal was Mayhew.

Harry and Meghan have another beagle named Mama Mia, who had been rescued from an animal testing center. The couple adopted the pup two years ago from a group of dogs rescued from the facility. The poor pups had been bred for pharmaceutical and biotech research.

Meghan had specifically wanted an “older dog,” not a “Christmas puppy,” as she calls them. Harry and Meghan made a special trip to adopt the dog. Mia had just given birth to several puppies.

When choosing a dog, try a shelter or rescue. There are always dogs whose lives need to be saved.
