Harvey Weinstein had reportedly gotten himself into trouble in prison for flouting the rules.
Harvey Weinstein Was Caught Breaking Prison Rules By Smuggling ‘Milk Duds’-‘I Am Sincerely Sorry’
According to reports, the film producer who is doing time in prison for sex offences, had apparently tried to smuggle in some candy into the jail. However, in the process of doing so, he was caught out and found to be in possession of some ‘Milk Duds.’
When that was communicated to Harvey and his legal team, the latter were also informed that their bags would be searched in case they had aided Harvey in smuggling such a thing.
Harvey sought to dispel any blame away from his legal team by claiming that he was the one that was responsible for bringing it in, which had apparently occurred when he was moved from Los Angeles to New York as part of his extradition.
And yet, the guards were not convinced given that they had searched Harvey thoroughly at the time, and there was no presence of the candy. Regardless of how it ended up in Harvey’s possession, his attorney Mark Werksman felt that this should not detract away from Harvey’s otherwise good behavior in jail.
In an official statement on behalf of Harvey, Mark said: “We learned about this from the LA County sheriffs last November. From what we’ve learned, this was the first and only time Mr. Weinstein was accused of violating the rules, and he has been a model prisoner throughout his ordeal here in Los Angeles.”
The backlash from all of this has forced Weinstein to come out and hold his hands up. Although that may be the case, in the grand scheme of things, it would have been better if he apologised for the horrific crimes that he had been convicted of rather than over a case of candy.
In reality, however, by being in prison, it has brought a certain element of justice. In an apology, Harvey remarked: “This was an innocent misunderstanding. It will not happen again. I have been a model inmate, following the rules and regulations and I am sincerely sorry.”
