JK Rowling has stated that her comments about transgender people were misinterpreted.

JK Rowling Defends Her Comments On Trans People-‘You Could Not Have Misunderstood Me More Profoundly’

The backlash initially started when Rowling shared an article that had not used the word woman when it addressed the issue of menstruation. That did not sit very well with Rowling, as she responded with the following: “People who menstruate.

“I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?” In addition to this, Rowling followed up her comments by linking a tweet that referred to trans women as ‘men in dresses.’

All of this generated a lot of backlash amongst the LGBTQ community to the point where Rowling’s life was at risk. Her home address had been leaked on the internet, which she put down to trans activists. Not only that, but Rowling had also received some death threats.

But now it seems that she wants to clear up any misconceptions that may have emerged from her comments. In a clip of ‘The Witch Trials of J.K. Rowling,’ the author said: “I think: ‘You could not have misunderstood me more profoundly.

“I never set out to upset anyone. However, I was not uncomfortable with getting off my pedestal.” And yet, her initial comments did earn her some criticism from several stars that had been associated with the books.

Daniel Radcliffe came out with a statement to confirm that “transgender women are women,” as he sought to distance himself from Rowling. While that may have been the case, the social media response towards the author has been more positive.

This was on the basis that she was willing to speak up and defend her beliefs, regardless of what you may think about them. One person wrote: “Wish people would actually dig a little deeper and see what she’s really fighting for.”

So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below. If you liked reading this article, then check out our other features on the Daily Soap Dish.
