Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were reportedly shocked by the decision of the Royal family to take a step back from them following their exit in 2020.

That is according to Royal author Tina Brown in her book entitled ‘The Palace Papers: Inside the House of Windsor – the Truth and the Turmoil.” The primary reason why this was allegedly the case was because the couple had hoped that the Royal family may have compromised following their Megxit.
After all, at the time the couple were on the front foot by coming out with various bombshells in their Oprah Winfrey interview. And given that this interview displayed the Royal family in a negative light, there was a feeling that the couple may have been able to gain some leverage.
But this did not turn out to be the case. Shortly after, accusations had emerged within Buckingham Palace that Meghan had been engaged in bullying to the point where Royal staff had cried.
In addition, the Royal family continued as normal by choosing to unite together to the extent that Harry and Meghan were left isolated in the United States. In her book, Tina claimed the following: “They thought… it would force the royal family to respond by saying… ‘OK, Harry and Meghan, what do you want?
“We’re going to give you what you want.” This begs the question: what did the couple want? Well, initially it was suggested that they wanted to lead a private life away from the media scrutiny.
These claims were then countered by other reports that suggested that they had considered being part-time royals, something which Queen Elizabeth II objected to. And as for the Royals giving their blessing, not everyone was on board. In particular, Prince William had expressed reservations towards their relationship.
