EastEnders Spoilers finds that Ross Kemp would have been no stranger to danger throughout his stint as Grant Mitchell on EastEnders. However, viewers, last night saw a completely different side to the former Walford resident, as there was an intriguing documentary shown on ITV as Kemp entered Category A prison HMP Belmarsh.

The prison is one of the most revered in the United Kingdom and has housed serial killers such as Charles Bronson and Ian Huntley. The prison also houses terrorists and people who have committed unthinkable crimes. Kemp’s documentary was an insightful look into the world that is Belmarsh.

EastEnders Spoilers: First Time It Has Ever Been Explored

Belmarsh plays host to over 200 murderers and 17 convicted terrorists, but last night viewers got an insight into the prison for the first time ever. Never before have film crews been allowed to enter Belmarsh, and Kemp had the honour of being the first investigative journalist to enter, as he spent six months on-location filming.

The first episode last night centred around how the prison is able to deal with high-profile inmates despite the crisis of having a stretched workforce. Some of the figures that were in the prison during the filming were Julian Assange, and EDL leader, Tommy Robinson. Kemp throws himself into the documentary and gets up close and personal with the inmates. He learns of why they are in prison, and what happens in the prison in order to get them to reform.

    EastEnders Spoilers: Kemp’s Spice Experience

During one of the scenes, Kemp was introduced to an illegal substance called Spice. The synthetic cannabinoid is used actively inside Belmarsh prison, with prisoners having damaging results. The drug is nicknamed ‘Zombie’, since it effectively leaves the person taking the substance zoned out.

Kemp was handed the substance while the prison wardens apprehended the prisoner that had taken the drug. They took him down to the hospital located in the prison, while Kemp couldn’t save himself from intrigue as he sniffed the vape pen where the Spice was being smoked from. Kemp immediately replied, stating that it smelt like paper that had been burned before he inhaled again and zoned out. He came around a few seconds later where he told the cameraman that he couldn’t speak for a few seconds. The documentary continues next week, as Kemp explores more units inside Belmarsh prison.
