According to new reports, the FBI has confirmed that human remains, along with Laundrie’s backpack and notebook have been found. Laundrie, who is a suspect in the disappearance and death of his fiance Gabby Petito, was last seen on September 13th. Recently the FBI identified that the dental records confirmed the bones found matched those of Brian Laundrie. Here’s what you need to know.

Fox News says Laundrie’s items were found just hours after his own parents, Chris and Roberta Laundrie, were at the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park. Laundrie reportedly disappeared after going hiking in the area last month.

According to reports on Thursday, local authorities confirmed that the skeletal remains found during the month-long search for Brian Laundrie near the Carlton Reserve were his. “They are human remains, no doubt there. I would say that the remains were consistent with one individual, you know skeletal remains,” North Port Police spokesperson Josh Taylor told the press.

“These items were found in an area that, up until recently, had been underwater. Our evidence response team is on scene using all available forensic resources to process the area,” said Michael McPherson, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Tampa division. “It’s likely the team will be on scene for several days.”

McPherson, who described Laundrie as “a person of interest in the murder of Gabby Petito,” refused to take questions or provide more details.

But he did add, “These items were found in an area that up until recently have been underwater. Our evidence response team is on scene using all available forensic resources to process the area. It’s likely the team will be on scene for several days.”

Gabby Petito was reported missing and found dead after she and her boyfriend Brian Laundrie embarked on a country-wide road trip this past summer. However, Laundrie returned home to Florida on September 1st without his girlfriend, and 10 days before her mother reported her missing.

Her body was found on September 19 in Wyoming’s Grand Teton National Park. The coroner said DNA samples were taken by law enforcement.
