Akon has been accused of insulting Jewish people after expressing his support for Kanye West through declaring that his anti-Semitic remarks do not concern him as they do not have a direct impact on his life.
Fans Slam Akon For Refusing To Condemn Kanye West’s Admiration For Adolf Hitler-‘This Is So Disgusting’
On Friday 4th December 2022, the 49-year-old star suggested that those feeling distressed by his statements should not take it too hard. This followed after West, showed exaltation towards Adolf Hitler and suggested that people must discontinue their criticism of the Nazis in a disquieting discussion with Alex Jones.
Ye had also questioned the credibility of whether 6 million Jews had been killed in the Holocaust. When asked to comment on Kanye’s words, this is what Akon had to say: “Not really because those comments don’t really affect me personally.
“And if it does affect you personally then find a way to actually respond in a way to where that conversation can be reciprocated.” Those comments did not go down very well for the following reasons. First of all, Akon refused to condemn Kanye’s comments outright.
Therefore, there was a feeling that he did not have a care for those who had been impacted by his remarks. Secondly, it also inadvertently made it look as though Akon was endorsing those comments.
After all, if he did not agree with them, then he should have stated that openly. And this was reflected in the comments that followed on social media. One person wrote: “Those comments don’t affect him personally? That is spitting in the face of Jewish people everywhere. Hate is hate.”
While another person stated: “This is so disgusting, he is making excuses for Nazis apologists with a smile on his face, how can anybody give people platforms to speak about it and relay Nazi ideology?”
