Simu Liu, an actor, expressed his disapproval of what the NBA All-star Game did when they likened him to a person who he didn’t resemble.

On Friday, 17th February 2023, the squad led by Dwayne Wade, which included Liu, succeeded in beating Team Ryan Smith by a slim margin of 81-78. While that may have been the case, the event was overshadowed by something else.
A lot of people agreed that the fan’s appearance was not similar to that of the 33-year-old Canadian celebrity. In his comments, Simu said: “I had a great time but this wasn’t cool.
“To be perfectly clear the entire org and ops team surrounding all-star have been nothing but absolutely stellar to myself and all my friends. This was just one person with a camera. And no disrespect to my man in the videotron either! he’s gorgeous we just don’t look alike.”
This did not go down well on social media for the following reasons. First of all, some stated that the incident was racist, noting that it was a perpetuation of the stereotype that all Asians look identical.
Secondly, others argued that the whole concept of finding look-alikes was problematic since it could involve people being bullied on the big screen. And this was reflected in the comments that followed on social media.
One person wrote: “The issue here is that they have no similar characteristics other than being Asian. Usually when they do this bit, there’s SOMETHING to connect. Haircut, beard, build, something.
“This is literally just playing into the ‘all Asians look alike’ stereotype,” while another person stated: “I always felt like the ‘look alike cams’ are always glorified bullying, Makes fun of weight, hairlines, race ect.”
