Fans Have Mixed Response To Johnny Depp’s Hologram Appearance At The 2022 MTV Video Music Awards-‘Really F–king Gross’
The Hollywood actor has been enjoying a renaissance of late following his defamation trial victory against his ex-wife Amber Heard. Depp has already stepped into the music scene as shown by his performances with Jeff Beck. So it was not a surprise that someone as popular as Johnny would make an appearance.
And yet, the star did not attend in the traditional manner that people may have been hoping for. In the video here, we can see Depp’s face in an astronaut suit. But rather than it actually being Depp, it was a hologram image of his face inside the astronaut suit.
Depp was then alleged to have said the following: “Hey, you know what? I needed the work.”
This immediately drew a widespread response for the following reasons. First of all, Depp’s appearance was made known to everyone prior to the ceremony. So the fact that people were waiting in anticipation to see him did raise a lot of emotions once the hologram came.
Secondly, others felt this was a disingenuous marketing ploy to get people to watch the ceremony in the hope of seeing Depp. And by the looks of it, people were not very impressed. Journalist Alex Suskind had this to say: “Johnny Depp showing up at the VMAs for funny cameos is really f–king gross.”
Nevertheless, there were those who were impressed with the cameo appearance. This was simply on the basis that Depp was allowed an opportunity to redeem himself on a big stage after everything that had happened to him with his trial.
And that was ultimately the most important thing. Another person wrote: “Johnny Depp saying ‘Hey, I needed the work’ was pretty funny, but you gotta be read well into the Depp drama to know what it’s about.
