At least 8 people are dead and hundreds are injured at the Astroworld Festival in Houston. About 50,000 people were at the sold-out outdoor music festival at NRG Park, the stadium complex where the Astrodome and the NRG Stadium stand when Travis Scott was on stage.

More than 300 people were treated at a field hospital set up near the festival and now reports say that fans had taken to their social media accounts to beg the chart topper to stop his concert at the same time that people were getting tramped to death. Here’s what you need to know.

Social Media Fans Begged Travis Scott To Stop Playing During Astroworld Concert: 8 People Dead, Hundreds Left Injured

The worst of the incident began around 9:15 p.m. when the crowd of approximately 50,000 concert-goers began to move toward the front of the stage, according to Houston Fire Chief Samuel Peña. “The crowd began to compress toward the front of the stage, and people began to panic,” Peña said, according to local reports.

The organizers, rapper Travis Scott and LiveNation, stopped the show when it was apparent that multiple people were hurt, according to Houston Police Chief Troy Finner. However, it might have been too late as many concert goers said on social media that the rapper kept on performing on stage, despite all of the chaos.

Just as things were taking a tragic turn, it appeared as though Travis’ fans were begging him to stop the concert on social media. Many comments on his Instagram post included, “Bro people died tonight man. You need to speak up and say something,” along with, “BRO HOW U NOT GONNA STOP THE CONCERT IF THE CROWD SCREAMING THAT PPL ARE DYING. WTH????”
Another fan wrote, “People were dying and he kept playing on stage. It is partially his fault. But his management team is supposed to handle all the security. All he is there for is to perform for his audience.”
