The Crown aired its finale on December 14th. The show’s end was devoted to Prince Charles’s (Dominic West) marriage to Camilla Parker Bowles (Olivia Williams). The show’s creator, Peter Morgan, knew when he created the historical drama that he wanted to end the show around 2005 when Charles and Camilla were wed.
The Onset of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Relationship Examined in The Crown
The story of the beginning of Prince William’s (Ed McVey) and Kate Middelton’s (Meg Bellamy) relationship also took the center stage toward the end of the series. Peter wanted to show Prince Charles’s romance and marriage to Camilla as the closing of the final chapter of one story. This was while William and Kate were the start of a new one.
The Crown has been described as a “love letter” to Queen Elizabeth. It is more emotional and poignant than expected from such a strict family. The show’s situations, stories, and romances are its heart and soul, but how much of the show is historically accurate?
Surprisingly, it comes as close as you can get for a TV show. However, some things were embellished or did not happen in real life.
For example, in the show, a young Kate Middleton and her mother run into Prince William and Princess Diana in London. This situation never actually happened. Princess Diana died when William was just 15 years old.
Prince Willam and Kate met in 2001 while both students at St. Andrews University in Scotland. They were college sweethearts.
The show also depicts Kate and her mother plotting for her to meet Prince William. There may not be truth to this plotline, but there are rumors that Kate picked St. Andrews to meet her future husband.
2002 Was a Rough Year for the Royal Family
In 2002, Queen Elizabeth lost her sister, Princess Margaret, and it left her heartbroken. In the same year, she also lost her mother, Elizabeth the Queen Mother.
This timeframe was also the year of the Golden Jubilee to celebrate the Queen’s 50 years on the throne. In the show, Prince William watches the event on TV with Kate Middleton and her family, which is entirely false.
In The Crown, Prince William felt guilty about not being there for the Queen. He drove back to London to be with his grandmother. The reality is that Prince William was there to see the event live.
In the show, The Queen urges her sister, Margaret, not to stand in the way of Charles and Camilla’s relationship in 1997, which is false in every way. The Queen disapproved of her son’s relationship with Camilla, given that he had just divorced Princess Diana.
The show depicts Dodi Fayed (Khalid Abdalla) proposing to Princess Diana the night of their fatal car crash. However, Diana turns him down.
It has been determined through careful examination that this scenario was highly doubtful to have occurred. A ring was found later at Dodi’s apartment, but Diana had not gone to his apartment that day.
All in all, there is some truth to the Crown’s final season. However, several situations were inaccurate and could not have been possible.
