Eminem Rejected An Opportunity To Perform With 50 Cent At The Controversial FIFA Qatar World Cup – ‘Much Respect To Him’
The organisers were willing to pay $9 million for a performance, however, Eminem declined the opportunity. The hip-hop artist declared that authorities in Qatar were eager to engage the two performers following their contribution to the highly-praised Super Bowl halftime performance in 2022.
While that may have been the case, it failed to materialise. In his comments, 50 Cent said: “Because of the Super Bowl, I got an inquiry about World Cup and they had a budget of $9 million. If you would do a one-off show, maybe you would do the biggest live sporting event in the world.
“[Eminem’s team said] He’s not gonna do it.” The football tournament that occurred in Qatar was surrounded by a lot of debate and criticism, especially when it came to their human rights violations, alleged inequality against women and the LGBTQ community, and the fatalities of migrant labourers who developed the sites where the games were conducted.
Despite this being the case, there were numerous stars that had a role to play in the country when it came to the tournament such as David Beckham. The fans on social media made their position very clear. A certain subset of people were of the view that Eminem turned down the opportunity on the basis of his principles.
And in the process of doing so, they praised him for standing up for what he perceived to be correct. One person wrote: “Shady isn’t so shady – has integrity has a daughter – doesn’t like their attitudes towards women.
“Oh and already has plenty of money and fame,” while another person stated: “Much respect to him. I am not surprised because Eminem is like that and not a phony, greedy mother scratcher.”
