According to reports, Twitter did not allow its users the chance to spread news articles over Biden’s personal life and his links to Ukraine amid his father Joe Biden’s election campaign in 2020. And as part of that process, it did prevent a political discourse which resulted in Joe Biden outwitting Donald Trump amid allegations of electoral fraud.
In response to that, one user on Twitter demanded that Musk show more transparency in light of his recent Twitter acquisition which was done under the guise of promoting more freedom of speech.
The user said: “Raise your hand if you think [Musk] should make public all internal discussions about the decision to censor the story on Hunter Biden’s laptop before the 2020 Election in the interest of Transparency,” to which Musk replied: “This is necessary to restore public trust.”
In early 2019, the reports about Hunter Biden’s laptop were dismissed as misinformation by Trump supporters. However, DailyMail.com verified the laptop’s contents. And yet, the saga was dismissed as whistleblowers alleged FBI agents deliberately obstructed investigations.
With that being said, Musk must live up to his words. In his comments at the time of the acquisition, the Tesla CEO remarked: “Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated.”
The Twitter user base welcomes these comments, as it demonstrates that perhaps things on the platform may be changing. But in the process of doing so, they recognsied that there could be several consequences that could emerge since many people could end up being incriminated. One person wrote: “Grab yer’ popcorn!”
