According to a biography of Elon Musk by Walter Isaacson, the infamous billionaire once passed out drunk after drinking shots of vodka at a dinner meeting in Russia’s capital, Moscow, in 2002.
Rocket engineer Jim Cantrell, his former college roommate, and Founder Institute CEO, helped him arrange the meeting. Musk and the other two men set out to Russia with a mission.
The biography took two years to complete and was released on Monday. It reveals that Musk wanted to purchase rockets for a space mission from a group of Russian businessmen. Musk’s goal was to increase public interest in space exploration.
The future CEO of Tesla was already hung over from partying in Paris and couldn’t wait to get to the restaurant and get hammered again.
During the meeting, Musk took minuscule bites of food and shot after shot of vodka. Musk and the other men were each gifted an expensive custom-labeled bottle of vodka. The label had a picture of Musk on the planet Mars.

Musk’s first plan for space exploration was to send a greenhouse to Mars. Unfortunately for Musk, they wanted the large sum of $18 million for the rockets. The future founder of Space X tried to keep up with the conversation but had extreme difficulty.
Musk was trying to haggle down the price and was resting his head on his hand, and then he suddenly passed out, and his head slammed down onto the table.
The Russians made fun of Musk for being unable to handle his liquor. Not only did the Russians not give Musk the rockets for the money he offered, but they even raised the price, saying to Musk, “Oh, little boy, you don’t have the money?”
They wanted an astonishing $21 million each for the rocket. Needless to say, a deal was not made that night.
Musk explained to Iraacson that he calculated that the weight of the food was equal to the weight of the vodka and determined that they were “roughly equal.”
Work Hard, Play Hard
This scenario is not the first time that Musk drank himself into oblivion. He admitted to partying so hard in Los Angeles that he fell asleep in his car and passed out drunk.
All this occurred right before a meeting in Paris with the French President.
Musk has said before that he disliked the taste of most alcohol and had little use for it, but he enjoyed red wine. He wants to seem sophisticated, above partying, and better than everyone with these false remarks.
In 2017, Musk tweeted about drinking red wine and taking Ambien. He certainly has a way of painting a picture. Musk was also seen on social media sipping from a glass of red wine at the FIFA World Cup final in Qatar last year.
Musk received criticism last year for his refusal to help launch a Ukrainian drone surprise attack on the Russian navy. He stopped the Starlink satellite communication service. He said he feared that it would result in a nuclear war.
Musk is synonymous with several successful ventures. Musk’s peers teased and bullied him a lot in school. Now, he has a reputation for being a “difficult boss” and impossible to please.”
