Elon Musk has denied reports that Twitter had taken down its suicide prevention tool after the Head of Trust had said the feature was only temporarily ceased, which caused anxiety among activists.
Elon Musk Denies Reports That Twitter Has Removed Its Suicide Prevention Tool-‘False, It Is Still There’
On Friday 23rd December 2022, Reuters released an article that stated Twitter had eliminated a feature that displayed suicide prevention hotlines and, according to the report, the decision was made by its new proprietor, Musk.
This function, labeled #ThereIsHelp, is designed to lead people to assistance when they look for words related to suicide and other matters such as mental health. While that may have been the case, Elon denied that anything of the sort had happened. In his comments, Elon said: “False, it is still there.”
Much in the same way, Ella Irwin who happens to be Twitter’s head of trust and safety came out to confirm that the feature had only been temporarily suspended. In her comments, Ella remarked: “We have been fixing and revamping our prompts.
“They were just temporarily removed while we do that. We expect to have them back up next week.” This has not been the only issue that has been on the list of Twitter’s priorities.
Musk has expressed his desire to take a stand against child sexual abuse content on Twitter and has voiced his disapproval with how its earlier management had dealt with this problem. Nevertheless, he has downsized the personnel who were responsible for monitoring any questionable material.
The fans on social media made their position very clear. A certain subset of people were of the view that the reports were designed to portray Elon in a negative light due to his attempt to reform Twitter. One person wrote: “Yet ANOTHER Hit Piece on Musk. So, So Predictable.”
It is fair to say that Elon has a long way to go before he wins over his critics. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
