It is set to be an eventful Christmas on EastEnders, but could Phil Mitchell’s (Steve McFadden) rage lead to the return for an iconic character. Fans are certainly predicted that this could be the case after a significant name drop in last night’s episode got social media lighting up like a Christmas tree.
Fans were sent into a frenzy when Phil brought up his brother Grant (Ross Kemp) during an impassioned speech, but could a return seriously be on the cards? It’s fair to say that the brothers don’t see eye to eye, and if one character can stop, or at least slow down, Phil’s vicious tirade, then it may be his brother.
EastEnders Spoilers: Brothers Fall Out
It’s fair to say that the two Mitchell siblings haven’t been the closest of friends over the past couple of years, as they had a falling out in a love triangle that also involved Sharon (Letitia Dean). Both brothers fell in love with her, and their relationship has never been rebuilt since then.
Phil was the winner on that occasion as he married Sharon before she got pregnant. But tensions are going to boil over during the festive period when it is finally revealed that Phil isn’t actually the father of the baby. But, Phil’s revelation by bringing Grand into the conversation could signal his intent to make up with his brother.
Grant’s name was mentioned after Phil had beaten up a police officer so badly that he may have been killed. Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) intervened to speak to his dad about his revenge plan as he feared that he was about to return to his alcoholic ways.
EastEnders Spoilers: Chances Of Grant’s Return
While social media went crazy when Grand was name-checked in last night’s episode, it would certainly be a surprise to everybody if he was to end up back on the square. And what impact he would have could also be damaging. The former villain may choose to align with Phil, but he may also go against his brother in an attempt to end the distress of many residents of Walford.
The most likely scenario would see Grant coming back to help Phil, as he is floating dangerously towards the edge of abyss. Grant was last seen in the soap in 2016 as he attended the funeral of Peggy Mitchell (Barbara Windsor) before he helped Ben out of a dangerous situation involving Paul Coker (Jonny Labey).
Kemp himself is a busy man and has a lot of ongoing projects, but earlier this year he did tease that we may not have seen the last of him on the soap. Could this be his big re-emergence from the shadows?
