Donald Trump is suing CNN in court, claiming that the network defamed him out of concern that he’ll run for president again. He’s also demanding a ton of money in damages.
The former president has just filed a federal lawsuit against the network, alleging that it has been promoting a lot of defamatory comments about him over the past couple of years. According to the ex-prez, this is all part of a campaign to portray him in the worst possible light in preparation for a 2024 run.
Trump is upset about the terms “racist,” “Russian lackey,” “insurrectionist,” and even comparisons to “Hitler,” which he claims CNN has used to describe him. In Trump’s opinion, those statements simply go too far and should be considered defamatory.
Donald Trump Suing CNN For Defamation For Almost Half A Billion Dollars!
Regarding the alleged Hitler digs, Trump’s lawyers argue that CNN’s repeated use of the phrase “The Big Lie” in reference to Trump contesting the results of the 2020 election is actually a direct allusion to a phrase used by Hitler to incite hatred of Jews and justify the Holocaust.
Trump’s team said, “beyond simply highlighting any negative information about the plaintiff and ignoring all positive information about him, CNN has sought to use its massive influence — purportedly as a ‘trusted’ news source — to defame the plaintiff in the minds of its viewers and readers for the purpose of defeating him politically.”
Trump’s team asserts that CNN has blurred the distinction between news and opinion by reporting these claims about him as absolute fact, which is against the law. DT is requesting more than $475,000,000 in damages.
Interestingly enough, we’ve seen CNN consistently lie about a lot of things. Even podcast Joe Rogan was the target of their lies and it was plainly pointed out in black and white. Also, after seeing Johnny Depp just win a massive lawsuit in court for defamation, there seems to be a lot of precedence out there right now.
